Aging & Disability Resource Centers

Aging and Disability Resource Centers (ADRCs) are service centers that provide a place for the public to get accurate, unbiased information on all aspects of life related to aging or living with a disability. These centers are friendly, welcoming places anyone can contact to receive information and assistance about the public benefits available at the center, and programs and services available throughout the area.

Individuals, family members, friends or professionals working with issues related to aging, physical disabilities, developmental disabilities, mental health issues or substance use disorders can receive information specifically tailored to each individual’s situation from ADRC centers. ADRC services can be provided at the center, via telephone or through a home visit – whichever is most convenient to the individual seeking help.

ADRCs provide the following services:

Information and assistance:

Information about local services and resources
Assistance in finding services to match your needs
- In-home care
- Housekeeping and chore services
- Home modifications, safety and maintenance
- Health (e.g., lifestyles, management of chronic conditions, dementia, etc.)
- Respite
- Transportation
- Nutrition & home delivered meals
- Housing, including senior and low-income housing
- Assisted living, nursing homes and other long-term care facilities
- Financial assistance (e.g., social security, SSI, disability, Medicare, Medicaid and other benefit programs)
- Legal issues (e.g., guardianship, power of attorney and client rights advocacy)
- Abuse, neglect and financial exploitation
- Mental health, alcohol and drug abuse, and crisis intervention
- Employment, vocational services and volunteer work
- Adaptive equipment
- Other

Long-term counseling care options:

Seek counseling on the important, long-term choices you have about where your parent will live, what kind of help is needed, where to receive that care and how to pay for it.
One-on-one consultations will help you make a decision based on the pros and cons of the various options in light of your situation, values, resources and preferences.

Benefit counseling:

Benefit specialists provide information about benefits that you may be entitled to receive, such as Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, disability and low-income housing.
Benefit specialists advocate for you when you have problems with Medicare, social security and other benefits.
Elderly benefit specialists serve people 60 years and older.
Disability benefit specialists serve adults with disabilities under 60 years old.
- This includes people with physical or developmental disabilities, mental illnesses or substance use issues.

Access to funding for long-term care:

ADRC staff can determine if your parent will be eligible for public funding for long-term care.
ADRC staff can help you prepare your parent’s Medicaid application, if eligible.
ADRC staff can explain the long-term care program choices.
- These programs include Family Care; Include, Respect, I Self-Direct (IRIS) Program; Partnership and Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE).
