If you have elderly parents who both need care, Adult Family Homes (AFHs) give them the option to stay together while receiving care. These homes are licensed under Chapter DHS 88 (exit DHS), Wisconsin Administrative Code. An AFH is similar to an assisted living facility where a non-relative, trained staff of the AFH provides care, treatment or services to three or four adults who reside at the home, above room and board. People who live at AFHs can receive up to seven hours of nursing care per week.
